Salmon and avocado sushi

The salmon and avocado sushi is a traditional dish of Japanese cuisine which consists of a rice roll for sushi stuffed with thin strips of salmon and avocado. The rice for sushi is seasoned with a mixture of rice vinegar, sugar and salt, which gives it a bittersweet taste and makes it stick slightly to maintain the shape of the roll. The nori seaweed provides a crunchy texture and slightly salty taste, while the avocado brings a smooth, creamy flavor that perfectly complements the salmon. This dish is often served with soy sauce and wasabi, and can be enjoyed as an appetizer, a light meal or as part of a sushi banquet.

  • Use the sushi mat to roll the nori seaweed and rice around the filling, making sure it stays firm.
  • Repeat the process with the other nori kelp sheets and remaining ingredients.

Tips

  • Sushi Rice: It is important to use high-quality sushi rice for the best results. Rice should be rinsed several times before cooking to remove excess starch. Use a rice cooker to cook the rice and follow the package instructions.
  • Salmon: Make sure you buy fresh, high-quality salmon. You can buy it in fillets and cut it into thin strips. For better flavor, you can marinate salmon in a mixture of soy sauce, mirin, and sake for a few minutes before using it in sushi.
  • Nori seaweed: Nori seaweed sheet can be found in the international section of many supermarkets. It is important to use a fresh, crisp leaf so that it does not fall apart when rolling the sushi.
  • Utensils: It is recommended to use a bamboo mat to roll the salmon and avocado sushi. You will also need a sharp knife and a bowl of vinegar water to wet your hands and prevent the rice from sticking.
  • Presentation: For an attractive presentation, you can cut the rolls into even slices and present them on a plate decorated with mint leaves, soy sauce and wasabi.
